Here is a love song, ‘It Would Be So Easy’. We alternated 6/8 and 7/8 measures, I think a good job was done of that. I discovered with this song that you could play in 3, and add a beat, therefore playing in 4 without going noticed; that is, those math geeks in us were having fun without sounding too ‘prog’, read: you can add as many beats as you damn well please when in ‘3’! We explored this a bit more (and with more conviction) with ‘Mary’. The funniest or quirkiest thing about the making of this song is, I fit the time signature around the lyrics, not the other way around. I’ve always viewed that as a gift from the gods of unrequited love/ time signatures (wow that sounds too lofty). There were a few songs that we never recorded, that flirted with the idea of playing in 3 and adding beat(s). One that comes to mind is ‘Fair Madeline’. That was a pretty song…
